El Pauji

El Paují The community of El Paují is south of Bolivar State, about 75 kilometres west of Santa Elena de Uairén, on the road that leads to Icabarú and very close to the border with Brazil. In El Paují the streets are not paved. There is no cell phone coverage, but there is a communications center which can access the internet. The community also has an airstrip, medications, a rescue group and a school. For tourists there are posadas and restaurants. Around 500 people live in the community, many of them professionals and retirees. Among them there are craftsmen, adventurers, miners and beekeepers.

Full day tour El Pauji

This tour starts from Santa Elena de Uairén.

Depart from Santa Elena at 7am. On the way we stop at a viewpoint to see the dramatic landscape and several tepuys. We pass some small gold and diamond mines and may be able to visit one.

After a 4 hour drive we arrive at El Pauji. Now it’s time to stretch your legs after the drive – we take a 40 minute walk to the top of El Abismo. This forms part of the escarpment of the Pacaraima range, and offers spectacular views. From here the forest of the Amazon basin stretches away into the distance. After descending from El Abismo we visit Pozo Esmerelda for a refreshing swim, before lunch in a small restaurant in El Pauji.

After lunch there will be time to visit various places in the community to see and possibly purchase handcrafts and local honey. We leave for Santa Elena, arriving at approximately 6.30pm.

Prices $45 per person, minimum 4 people, maximum 7 people. Prices correct at 1st October 2017

The tour is in a 4×4 Toyota Landcruiser with air conditioning.

Included Price includes lunch, soft drinks, transport, experienced guide, and an ice box for your use.
